The Maximum Residency Rule (MRR)
Time Limit for Completion of a Degree: Residency Requirement
A student is required to finish his/her program of study within a prescribed residency period (see list of prescribed residency per program below). If the student is not able to finish the program within the prescribed time, the student can request for the waiver of MRR.
The extension of the MRR is processed at the Faculty level. While the waiver of MRR beyond the allowable period of extension is approved by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA) (as per OVPAA Memorandum 2023-109, issued on 11 August 2023).
The steps for application of MRR waiver are as follows (as stated in Annex A of OVPAA Memorandum 2023-109):
- Students apply for readmission and submit necessary requirements to the faculty office/ college.
- Faculty office endorses the student’s application to OUR.
- OUR evaluates the student’s application.
Note: For waiver of MRR beyond the allowable period, OUR endorses the student’s application to the VCAA.
- The VCAA evaluates the student application and returns it to the OUR for the reflection of the student’s active status in AIMS/SAIS/CRS.
- OUR reflects the active status of the student in AIMS/SAIS/CRS.
The time limit for completion of a degree is inclusive of leaves.
